Pride 2021

As this day approached and a month of awareness comes to an end, I feel the need of addressing one of the many arguments I keep seeing around the Internet against the LGBT+ community.

"I can accept them and stand for their rights but that doesn't mean I'm morally obliged to share their views and tolerate their propaganda".

Then they go on to say stuff such as how media is coercing their freedom of speech because if you don't support the LGBT+ movement and complain about their portrayal on media, you'll get attacked.

Only two things I feel the need to say:

1. No, you can't say you accept LGBT+ people and support their fight if you're bothered by their views and the promotion of their rights. That's called DISCRIMINATION. Why? Because Pride is not some TV show with a fandom, it's not just some argument in a forum discussion, it's about people who want to be accepted and recognized as human beings with basic civil rights such as dignity and freedom. You don't get to agree with their existence or not. You don't get to decide if they deserve to be accepted or not. They do, and the movement exists to raise awareness on that.

2. Yes, you'll get attacked if you complain about Pride. Why? Because you're being hateful. No form of hate speech will be tolerated anymore. Even if you try to make it seem like you couldn't possibly be homophobic, you are.

Today Pride Day is celebrated, but I can see there's still a lot of work to do. Thankfully, I'm sure we will never be silent and will keep bothering all those who insist on having a say on what others should be.

HAPPY PRIDE! 🏳️‍🌈

I need no goads or giveaway;
For even if my hopes were nil,
I'd love you as I do today.

I know there's a tendency to be "overly positive" in social media, and I'm not saying one should go to the opposite end instead and be as negative as possible, but some people are really calling 2020 a "great year" and it bothers me to no end.

"I learned a lot about myself, I have had new amazing experiences by spending more time at home, I was reminded of what's important" etc, etc. I mean, good for them! But honestly... Calling it a great year? The world is in the middle of a pandemic, people are literally dying and those in disadvantage situations are barely surviving. Calling this year great, even if it was indeed great for you, is insensitive and straight selfish in my eyes, especially if you're a so called "influencer". It's not only about your life: you know people are going to read you because you sale an image and so, an idea of how it's supposed to be. Many of your followers look up to you, and to be this unrealistically positive and create such false expectations is very dangerous, especially during these trying times.

It's okay if you're having a hard time, it's okay if you're suffering and want others to understand better. It's NOT your fault to not be as happy as your favorite youtuber when there's so much loss and pain everywhere. I just wish everyone would know that. It does absolutely no good to ignore our emotional state and what's causing it by pretending things are alright just because others are not doing as bad.

Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump): Mexico is sadly experiencing very big CoronaVirus problems, and now California, get this, doesn’t want people coming over the Southern Border. A Classic! They are sooo lucky that I am their President. Border is very tight and the Wall is rapidly being built!

Not rapidly enough Mr. President! Imagine still feeling this proud of being a racist during a crisis. Can't relate.

In the last few days I have been having group video calls with my fellow 4th grade teachers and also with the rest of my coworkers. I have never been a person who enjoys communicating this way to be honest, but I guess life always forces one to adapt through adversity and learn new things, you want it or not. Although the government recently announced we're supposed to come back on June 1 now, our supervisor told us today that she believes we're actually not coming back to schools for the rest of the school year. That means a lot of work so we can transfer all our activities to virtual ones, while trying to make things easier for our students when it's not even easy for us.

Well, at least I'm glad we got some kind of recognition from Google today:

I don't know what it says in other languages but in Spanish it says "Gracias a todos los docentes" which means "Thanks to all teachers". I liked the little drawing with the laptop above the books because it really has been like this, a lot of improvising and just trying our best.

Despite everything, I can't thank enough having this job during these difficult times.

Take care everyone!

It was payday today and I was relieved to see all my salary on my account. Some fellow teachers and I were worried we wouldn't receive full payment since we're not actually working at the school, despite the fact that the government announced everyone should be receiving what they have worked hard for. However, I have known some teachers all over the country are struggling and it makes me really mad that even during this complicated time everyone is asking a lot from us and yet not recognizing our effort, to the point of making us worry about getting the pay we deserve.

We will continue with online classes for the next month, since the date has been already pushed back until April 30 and even then, they said the return to classes will be "gradual" which nobody knows yet what does it mean exactly. Will only some grades attend school on certain days? Or will each grade have small groups of students? Either way, it won't be easy to adapt but there's nothing else we can do.

I hope everyone is staying safe at home. Here things are getting worse as time passes by. We still don't reach 1000 cases but the number is raising more and more each day. Thank God we have great specialists giving us accurate information in a daily conference at 7pm, among them Dr. Hugo López-Gatell who is a epidemiologist. I really respect this man for all the work he's doing and the fact that he answers all the reporters' questions even when they are repetitive. I have high hopes that he'll be right and if we keep taking precautions there won't be as many cases and deaths in our country.

With that said, it's very likely that the date to return to classes will be pushed back, even Dr. López-Gatell already mentioned it. It hasn't been easy to work from home, there are some moms that have sent me over 20 e-mails in a single day and our school's platform has been having a lot of issues, probably because of the high demand. We're also going to attend a course to learn to use Google Classroom and I'm sure the workload will just keep getting bigger because parents and the headmasters are expecting a lot of us.

Despite all of this, I'm actually very thankful for my job, unfortunately a lot of workers are being fired and independent small businesses are really losing everything because of the pandemic. Both my sister and I are teachers so we have being able to keep our jobs without worrying too much, if we hadn't, I truly have no idea what would be of us during this complicated time. My heart feels for those in difficult financial situations because I have been there and it can be really worrisome. I'm expecting the government to give out some support, they already stated that enterprises shouldn't be firing their workers but instead look for ways to let them work from home. Hopefully it helps.

I pray for everyone's safety. Let's be cautious and keep hoping for the best.

Last Friday we had a teachers board where our principal discussed with us the options we had for a possible class suspension. Over the weekend our country's education system gave the news that our vacation period would start from next March 20 instead of April 3 as it was planned in our calendar. Just today, though, our school has announced that since tomorrow classes are dismissed and we'll be working with our students on the school online platform.

It's really hard to believe how much things can change over the course of just a few days. Last week was like any other and now I'll be working from home for at least 3 weeks. I really hope everyone stays safe.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas! :D 2020 is just around the corner and I wanted to do something special since 2019 is a year that came with a lot of changes for me. I have been living all kind of experiences, both good and bad and I just know there's a lot of work I need to do if I really want to improve my life.

I came across this little challenge and decided to share it here in case someone else would like to do it. During the next 7 days I'll be writing down all these things in a notebook, you're supposed to keep them somewhere so you can see your progress during the year but it's entirely up to you!

If you have troubles knowing what to write for each day you can try answering these questions:

Day 1: What experiences did I go through that will be useful for my future?
Day 2: What things or situations made things easier for me or motivated me?
Day 3: What ideas and beliefs didn't bring me positive results?
Day 4: What new ideas and beliefs would benefit my life?
Day 5: What would be my ideal emotional state and what things do I need do to get there?
Day 6: What situations caused me pain that I need to say goodbye to?
Day 7: What do I want to accomplish?

I hope you guys give it a try! Happy New Year 2020!

Thank God tomorrow is our last day of classes! Really having the craziest of weeks trying to control 28 kids inside a classroom. I still love them though! Being a teacher is such a ride.

This is how I started my only Saturday free from classes in months. Finally, after 6 long years, we have a new president. At this point, even though I will remain strong with my convictions as I always have, I won't be blindly passionated and state we will definitely be in a better situation. But I must be honest, and accept it's been beyond tiring and frustrating to loathe my country's government, to feel ashamed of the person representing us internationally, to the point I no longer celebrated our Independence Day or watched national news because seeing his mere face disgusted me. I'm not exaggerating: I truly despise our now ex-president with all of my soul.

It comes as fresh air to finally feel my country's president is not a man laughing in my face, instead, he is someone who is acknowledging all the things that need to be fixed and that keeps reassuring us that he will keep his word about what he has promised. He owed no explanation to anyone after being elected but he kept updating his social media answering the rumors and accusations of his detractors. People are already saying he's sending us to doom, demanding justice and better living conditions, all while he's been president for only a few hours. I never heard a group of people shouting a chorus at a official reunion with the ex-president, and yet today it happened during the protesting, and do you know what our now president did? He remained silent. He was in the middle of his speech and he stopped to hear them raising their voice. And when he started talking again, he answered their plead, saying he'll do his best to solve what the last government did wrong.

Call me crazy, but for me this all is already way too much more than what we received during the last 6 years.

I'm not saying this all means president López Obrador will do everything he said he would do. We have yet to see, it's our duty to question and doubt. But whatever happens, I at least feel I finally have the chance to believe things can go right again.

The gift I bought for myself is finally here! Since I want my 24th year of life to be a special one I decided to find a practical way to write down my memories. I really loved the design of this notebook, which contains decorated pages and is also big, almost the size of the average B4.

Click below for more pictures of the inside :)

Picture heavy! )

As you can guess, I'm totally in love with this planner! My favorite parts are the daily pages and the fact that it's so big. The quality of the paper is very good, too, and it includes a page marker. I just wish there were more weekly layouts but I find the 21 day project pages very interesting to try a new way of planning. I'm still using my binder for specific tasks, but I feel like this planner is not only a very practical diary but also will be useful to keep track of some stuff in a better way.

What do you think? :)
